mENTORING

We are committed to sharing our collective experience through mentoring emerging and established artists, makers, producers and other creative practitioners.  Over the years the Curious Seed team have continued to develop our mentoring practices.  We have shared our professional and personal knowledge, experience, and insight with a range of people in different contexts.  This support is a key part of how Curious Seed contribute to a healthy, evolving arts ecology in Scotland, which in turn nurtures our ongoing professional development.

Our Artistic Director has been a mentor on diverse projects including The Young Irish Choreographers Workshop, Breakin’ Convention's Open Art Surgery, Dance Base's DEBS scheme, One Dance UK’s Dancer’s Mentoring Programme and with Theatre Hullabaloo.  Our Producers have been part of Federation of Scottish Theatre’s StepUp training programme.

We offer mentoring opportunities throughout the year, in different ways depending on different needs.  This could be a one-off conversation, or could evolve into a mentoring relationship, related to your professional development or supporting your creative process.  If you are interested in speaking to us about mentoring, please get in touch info@curious-seed.co.uk

“Chris had a wonderful approach in asking me questions, helping me to refine the finer details and enable me to find the answers I was seeking. Having her as a mentor has had such an invaluable impact on me as an artist. I'm incredibly grateful for of all her time, encouragement, insight and expertise, which brought such richness to this whole experience."

“It is hard to over-state the value of these sessions, which have been a vital thread of connection during the pandemic. Chris has been a kindly companion in the non-judgemental space she expertly creates. Through her extensive skills as listener, witness and guide, I have felt truly supported in my practice.”

“The questions and probing have been invaluable for assessing and expanding the possibilities, we feel encouraged not to dive straight into fixing on one idea and going straight to a product but to play and explore even more rigorously and to have fun with it.”

“Because of this mentoring, I’m ready to become an artist again.”

“Having Leigh as a mentor has been incredibly valuable to me as an early-career producer. She has been generous with her time, patient and kind, and always direct and thoughtful with her questions and guidance. Our sessions together have afforded me more practical skills, knowledge and confidence, and that learning has provided huge benefits to the companies I work with, and the projects I produce.”
